The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is looking for a Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

ABOUT THE EBU TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION DEPARTMENT

The Technology & Innovation Department contributes to the EBU’s mission to secure a sustainable future for public service media (PSM) through strategic foresight, collective innovation, and technological excellence. It unites expertise across media technology, digital platforms, AI, distribution, and enterprise IT—ensuring Members remain trusted, resilient, and future-ready in an era of rapid transformation.

As the CTO, you will shape the EBU’s technology and innovation vision and lead cross-functional collaboration to deliver impact across broadcasting, digital ecosystems, and innovation networks.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION

• Strategic Leadership & Vision

Define and execute an integrated technology strategy across media platforms, innovation, and IT operations. Anticipate emerging trends (AI, 5G/6G, immersive media, sustainability) and translate them into actionable strategies. Represent the EBU in major international forums and partnerships.

• Innovation & Research

Lead R&D in AI, cloud/IP systems, automation, and personalization. Foster a collaborative innovation culture through pilot projects, proof-of-concepts, and open standards initiatives that advance Member-driven innovation.

• Digital Transformation & Platforms

Oversee digital and broadcast platforms (DTT, OTT, IP, satellite, and hybrid). Ensure interoperability, scalability, and sustainability across EBU’s technology ecosystem. Support Members in accelerating their digital transformation journeys.

• Partnerships, Advocacy & Standards

Build alliances with Big Tech, startups, regulators, and academia to promote democratic values and technological sovereignty. Strengthen EBU’s voice in standardization and policy-making.

• Internal Technology & IT Operations

Lead enterprise IT and media infrastructure ensuring resilience, security, and scalability. Drive alignment between IT and innovation for agile service delivery to Members and staff.

• Organizational & Financial Management

Lead a multidisciplinary team of 30–40 experts. Manage budgets, optimize investments, and embed sustainability, inclusion, and interoperability in all operations.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

• Over 10 years in senior leadership roles across media technology, digital platforms, AI, and enterprise IT.

• Proven ability to lead diverse, high-performing teams and drive strategic transformation.

• Expertise in broadcasting systems, cloud architectures, and emerging technologies.

• Strong international collaboration and stakeholder management skills.

LANGUAGE - Excellent communication in English; fluency in French/German an asset.

EDUCATION -Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Digital Innovation, or a related field.

ADDED VALUE

Additional experience in the following areas would be a strong advantage:

• Work within or alongside Public Service Media organizations.

• Familiarity with European regulatory frameworks and standards bodies.

• Engagement in global technology governance, AI ethics, or sustainability initiatives.

• Visionary mindset combining deep technical acumen with collaborative leadership.
